Description
This stone carving of Christ’s head is a well documented piece with photos from the Marxhausen family’s personal archive (see photos below). This includes photos of Marxhausen creating the piece. Untitled #1099 is a smaller, perhaps preliminary, study of the same subject.
This piece was displayed both inside and outside the Marxhausen studio for many years, and, other than a light dusting, no attempt has been made to remove any of the accumulated character.
